Medical TV Show Review: Rescue Me

Medical TV Show Review: Rescue Me

Rescue Me: A comedy-drama on FX that made you wonder if NYC firefighters are the worse people imaginable. It’s about ten years old but I still had a blast watching it – probably because I like guys being mean to each other. Also the theme song is awesome.

This is also the first video we made for the Extremely Low Budget Medical Drama YouTube channel, which is why it gets to be the first review too.

Date/Seasons: 2004-2011, 7 seasons, 93 full episodes, 11 mini-episodes

Main cast: Denis Leary, John Scurti, Daniel Sanjata, Steven Pasquale

Premise: A group of firefighters cope with NYC and PTSD in the years shortly following 9/11. PTSD, grief, guilt, dysfunction, and hilarity ensues. Also the main character Tommy sees ghosts and spends a tone of time drinking/having sex.

Pros: This is a guys guys show. There will be episodes completely related to penis length, yet includes a firefighter funeral. It is a lot like Sex and the City with firefighters and weird ‘no boobs’ rules since it aired on FX.

Cons: The women in the show are not treated well – they are all evil or scheming or dishonest. You get the idea. The guys aren’t shown to be much better but they are heroic firefighters.

Overall Impression: Fun if you can handle REALLY strong New York accents.
