Medical TV Show Review: Station 19

Medical TV Show Review: Station 19

Station 19: Soap opera that sort of takes place with firefighters currently on ABC trying to keep the Grey’s Anatomy franchise alive after its upcoming ability to vote in the next presidential election. ABC’s way of imagining it can challenge the Chicago Med/Fire/PD series.

Date/Seasons: 2018-current, Season 1-4 (pending)

Main cast: Jaina Lee Ortiz, Jason George, who cares – Brett Tucker and Barrett Doss – wait, they aren’t the main characters?

Premise: Overly attractive firefighters sleep with each other all the time while sometimes attending calls. Currently a spillover/parasite on Grey’s Anatomy.

Pros: The only part worth watching is Season 2’s Victoria Hughes/Lucas Ripley ‘Vicley’ relationship. Their chemistry was amazing and cut off for mysterious reasons. I disliked the first season and stayed for season 2 strictly for them to kill off the one of the two good characters and erase all of it with a new showrunner on season 3. (Having trouble finding a ‘pro’ on this . . .)

Cons: The show is a mess. I’d say dumpster fire, but the show does almost no actual firefighting. The first season was not great, the second season was fine until they (spoiler) killed Ripley. The third season is the same loud cacophony that is the worst parts of Grey’s Anatomy. Its characters are generally selfish and unevenly written which is the same problem Grey’s has since season 10. Follows the previously mentioned formula of Chicago Fire. Latina Female (selfish girl), Gay dude with a dead partner (no character dev), Lesbian Blonde Girl (evil and ambitious), Gritty Veteran (painful, stupid past), Uncle/dad/mother captain/fire chief/dying mentor (finally died)– see Chicago Fire, 911, 911: Lone Star, New Amsterdam etc for vastly superior shows.

Overall Impression: Skip it. You can find some great Vicley edits online or at brett-tucker.net – like this video tells you all you need to know.

  1. The best thing about Station 19 was the character creation of Lucas Ripley and the love he finds with Victoria Hughes a.k. a. Vicley.

This review sums up my thoughts exactly.
